I was born and raised in Portland Oregon and spent most of a very active childhood playing sports and exploring the PNW. I grew up backpacking, hiking, whitewater rafting, surfing, skiing, mountaineering and rock climbing. I was first introduced to CrossFit in 2010 but didn’t truly get involved until 2014 when I took a CrossFit class, masquerading as a strength and conditioning course at my high school. I clearly remember learning to squat and failing again and again, but I was stubborn and eventually found my balance. It was that original struggle that motivated me to strive to conquer each new movement that I encountered. College took me to WWU, where I took a ton of exercise science, nutrition and kinesiology classes, but somehow ended up with a BS and MS in Chemistry (it’s a long story). Early on at Western, I was given the opportunity to not only coach CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting classes but also write strength and conditioning programs. It was exciting and challenging, and I found a great amount of joy helping others improve their fitness. After graduating I moved to Seattle, and while looking for a new gym stumbled upon CrossFit Chateau. My original plan was to try out a ton of different boxes but after my first couple weeks that idea was tossed out the window. Somehow it came out that I was an experienced coach and next thing I knew I was coaching the early morning classes.
I am also a research scientist at Seagen/Pfizer, researching and developing novel cancer treatments. In my free time you can find me eating lots of delicious food, going on adventures, or reading anything besides scientific articles. Feel free to ask me anything exercise, or adventure related. I can’t guarantee it, but I may even have some good chemistry answers depending on how functional my brain is.
